Honey walnut shrimp is a famous Chinese dish that is commonly ordered for takeout. This dish involves crispy battered shrimp, tossed in a creamy mayonnaise sauce and mixed with caramelized walnuts.

  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2/3 cup mochiko flour
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 lb large shrimp
  • 2 tbsps honey
  • 1 tbsp condensed milk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  1. Stir together the water and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and add the walnuts. Boil for 2 mins.
  2. Drain and place the walnuts on a cookie sheet to dry.
  3. Whip the egg whites in a medium bowl until foamy. Add in the mochiko flour and continue whipping until it has a pasty consistency.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium high heat.
  5. Dip the shrimp in the mochiko mixture, and then fry in the oil for about 5 mins or until golden brown-ish.
  6. Drain out shrimp and let dry.
  7. Stir together the mayonnaise, honey, and condensed milk in a bowl.
  8. Add the shrimp.
  9. Sprinkle the walnuts on the shrimp.
